Church WAS fun: the music, the personalities, the fellowship, Aunt Maggie's Sunday School stories, stories of the old-time pentecostal revivals of the early 1900's. I had a good friend in high school who was catholic. Their church was NOT fun. Liturgy and checking the watch getting stressed out about missing the first part of the Cowboys games. He came to church with me a few times and I think he enjoyed the liveliness. I grew up to disdain the aloofness in my church and appreciate the solemnity of liturgy in his Catholicism. Should church be fun? Yes - to a point. We should laugh together and be in each other's lives. Our worship should be something we find joy in. It should be expressive, but it should never become a spectacle. When the amusement of church becomes the attraction, it has gone too far. Hmm…
